Roger Engebretson

Roger Engebretson retired from the Air Force in 1983 after twenty-six years of service which included a combat tour in Viet Nam in 1968, flying the F-4 Phantom. He retired from a second career in 1996 from Rockwell International Missile Systems Division located in Duluth, Georgia.

Roger was born and raised in North Dakota. He graduated from North Dakota State University in 1957 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. All three of his sons have graduated from the same school, and he reports that they are now thawing out in California, Florida, and Iowa. Spouse Phyllis claims that it is exciting to be married to a tuba playing fighter pilot.

Starting out playing saxophone in the school band, Roger switched to tuba when his tuba-playing uncle said he needed help in the community band. He continued playing the tuba at NDSU, and he also played in a fraternity Dixieland group. Roger returned to playing tuba after forty years.

He reports that his most memorable events are retirement, improving his golf swing, landscaping the yard, and feeling young again playing in the Southern Winds.
