Our first stop on the way to the canyon is here--for restrooms and, of course, to buy stuff. Following a long, but interesting, bus ride we arrive at our destination. Note that we came on Marilyn's personal tour bus.

We found Waimea Canyon quite impressive.

Here on the left is our boat, and on the right is the onboard entertainment. We had a combination river pilot/ukele player.
There is apparently a law in Hawaii that a visitor must never have more than an hour without seeing a hula dancer. Sure enough, there was one on our trip up the river.
Here she is.
The voyage up the Wailua was very pleasant, although there were some water skiers whose presence took the edge off the wilderness experience.
(At least there were no "personal watercraft"--aka JetSkis.)
We proceeded up river until we docked and walked a short dstance to the celebrated Fern Grotto. Here we were entertained by musicians and, of course, the ubiquitous hula dancers.
