The First Day

Honolulu

I. I begin the day with a stroll on storied Waikiki Beach. I even waded into the water for what was my first ever immersion in the Pacific Ocean. It was cold.

I came upon this church on Waikiki. Look very closely at the sign over the door and you can see that it appears to be the Church of the Burger King.

II. We met the Clarks and partook of a bon repast for lunch, following which we repaired to their luxury hotel room and spoke of many things.

On the left is the view from the Clarks' hotel room at the Marriott Waikiki, and on the right is the view from our room at the Sheraton Princess Kaiulani. You can see that the Clarks are international jetsetters who enjoy platinum status with the Marriott folks, while we enjoy no more than iron (or some other base metal--lead or tin, perhaps) status with Sheraton.

III. That evening it was off to Paradise Cove for a luau. I think the other two in the picture are friends of the Clarks' from California.

That's Paradise Cove at the left. On the right are Peg and Cliff. Cliff is amused by the proceedings while Peg is savoring the taste of her poi.

I consumed approximately ten mai-tais--this came to about one ounce of rum for the evening.

Here is some of the evening's entertainment. Hula dancing is big in Hawaii.
