Day Two

Tacoma, Glass Museum, and More Seattle

This morning we're off to Tacoma to visit the Museum of Glass. This is a wonderful place and we had a fine time there. First we visited Union Station. It is directly across the freeway from the Museum and contains a very nice collection of the works of Dale Chihuly. It's quite a spectacle.

Across the freeway is a foot-bridge from Union Station to the Museum of Glass. Not without reason it is called the Chihuly Bridge of Glass.. Take a look.

The Museum of Glass

We have no photos of museum exhibits, as photography inside is forbidden. It perhaps says something about my own artistic sensibilities, but for me the highlight of the visit was the opportunity to spend an unlimited amount of time in the so-called "hot-shop" watching glass objets d'art being fashioned. There was also a very knowledgeable and articulate guide or whatever to explain what was going on and to answer questions. Here are a couple of pictures of this interesting place. The fellow in the left foreground is the artist himself overseeing the operation. He was, interestingly enough, a Maori (from New Zealand, of course). Sadly, I don't remember his name.

Following lunch at the Museum, we're on our way back to Seattle for a visit to Seattle Center and the obligatory journey to the top of the Space Needle.

Note, incidentally, the blue and almost cloudless skies. Rumor hath it that this is unsual for this part of the country. The weather was, nevertheless, beautiful during our entire stay in the State of Washington.

Following are some photos from the observation area of the Space Needle.

This evening we're off to Palisade for dinner. Yet another excellent restaurant in Seattle. In addition to fine food, they have a very nice site at the Elliott Bay Marina.

After dinner, we're back to the Hampton Inn to rest up for tomorrow's activities---the end of a fine day.
